Hot off the press, check out these Gearbest Summer Sales for great deals!: http://tidd.ly/a1f5ee3 & http://tidd.ly/9fd6b969
To diagnose other car problems, I use this bluetooth OBDII adapter -http://tidd.ly/625a3033 – $3.49, and the app called Torque on my android phone.
The Car DVR I recommend using currently is this one: http://tidd.ly/5211f022
My #1 recommendation as of June 4th, 2016, if you want to “fix” your transmission. Older transmissions use Dexron III(Expired 2006, and GM has discontinued support), the new and improved automatic transmission fluid (ATF) is currently Dexron VI, which is fully backwards compatible, and is much better ATF, and is fact the only thing that GM uses since it’s the best ATF they have. Install Dexron VI in new and old transmissions, and you should get better fuel mileage, smoother shifts, and longer life out of your transmission, since it is a better oil with better friction, foaming, and viscosity properties, compared to Dexron III. (Thanks to Youtuber David James below, for providing this suggestion).
I show you how I change the transmission fluid, and clean out the accumulator pistons in this video:
Unstick Your 2004 Chevrolet Malibu 1-2 Accumulator Piston. What my hypothesis is, is that the piston gasket, and the wall of the piston chamber are sticking due to metal filings or just deterioration. If you have having 1-2 shift shudders, and/or hard 1-2 shifts, it could be because the piston is sticking, not travelling fully(shudder), and getting stuck then releasing hard(hard shifts). Over time, the parts wear, and this can allow the piston to get cocked in there. It’ll keep working, but it’s not going to travel back and forth properly, and that could cause all the problems we see. My permanent solution would be to purchase AC Delco accumulator piston, housing, gasket and spring, and replacing those. I can make a video about it if people are looking, let me know and I can work on it.
If your transmission is slipping/shuddering, try this little trick to exercise your accumulator piston, and minimize the issue(replace it when you get a chance and it should make it all smooth again).
I went and did a torque converter stall test in reverse, and it fixed it for me! Worth a shot if you’re experiencing shudder or slipping.
Make sure there’s nothing in front of you or behind you, just in case you move a bit. Obviously do it in a safe place, not in your garage or driveway! Do it in an open space where an accidental launch won’t damage anything!
What I did, hold the brake tightly, put it in reverse, and push the accelerator down all the way(WOT) about 3 seconds max at a time, that should fix it(stretch the accumulator piston’s legs, so to speak). If you do a stall test in drive, you should experience stall RPMs well over 2200 if you’ve got slippage. Mine was up towards 5000 RPM. After doing it in reverse, it stopped slipping. I’m guessing piston was sticky, and it needed the extra force to run it the full range, now it can go the full range easily, repeat as often as you need. Replacing the spring, housing and accumulator piston would be a good thing to try, it won’t hurt anything, cost $40, and new parts should work more smoothly anyways. Get quality AC Delco parts, I trust them, and it’s always worth the extra money for that quality.
If you’re looking for a good DVR, I’ve been using the A118C(http://tidd.ly/ec70e50b), my review video for it can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFjOvuCU2Lo
And I recommend purchasing the genuine one from Gearbest, I’ve gotten them from here and they have always been good quality.
There is also the B40D which is the A118C with a rear camera basically: http://tidd.ly/5211f022
I will be doing a review on this in the future.
And the A119, which is a 1440P (2K) version of the A118C: http://tidd.ly/715e16cd
I will be doing a review on this in the future.
