“But yes, overnight the losses in Europe and (the) US and then in the morning in the Asian markets ensured that we were opening in the negative zone. We did that, but the recovery thereafter was very smart and the positions and the steps taken by the government and the RBI (Reserve Bank of India) the regulators, they’re obviously going to have some impact, and we can see that very visibly”

Hundreds of flight attendants gathered in Mumbai on Thursday to protest against job cuts at one of India’s largest airlines.
Jet Airways on Wednesday called off its expansion plans, saying it would instead cut flights by 15 percent and lay off 800 flight attendants in response to high fuel costs and slowing demand.
Workers affected by the cuts demonstrated outside the Jet Airways office in Mumbai chanting: “We want jobs back!”
The company said in a statement that the cabin crew hired for a planned expansion programme which had been suspended would lose their jobs.
Jet Airways has also announced an alliance with India’s second largest private airline Kingfisher in order to cut costs.
The aviation sector in India has seen a dramatic growth but rising fuel prices over the past year have led to an increase in ticket prices which has affected passenger traffic and operational profitability.
India has little to no direct exposure to the mortgage-backed securities that spawned the current global financial crisis, but the emerging economy is suffering collateral damage in the form of tight credit, plunging currencies, tanking equity markets, slowing growth, and falling commodities prices.
On Thursday India’s benchmark Sensex index plunged 599.02 points, or 5.54 percent, to 10,210.10 in early trade, after worse-than-expected data about the US economy stoked fears of a global recession.
The index later recovered and as the market approached the close of day the Senex was down by 227.630 points or 2.106 percent.
Analyst Alok Kumar Agarwal said the recovery was down to steps taken by the Indian government, the Reserve Bank of India and market regulators.
